About Local Child Protection Committees


TERMS OF REFERENCE
1 Purpose
  • To consider implications for local practice of decisions of ACPC and other sub-groups.
  • To identify significant issues arising from local practice and refer as appropriate to ACPC or other sub-groups.
  • To resolve local difficulties over procedure and practice.
  • To promote multi-agency training within the local area.
  • To consider practice developments, locally and nationally, and ensure their dissemination to appropriate staff.
  • To facilitate interagency meetings for local practitioners to discuss relevant issues.

2 Membership
  • All agencies significantly involved in child protection services in the area should be represented on the Local Child Protection Committee. Representation will be from first or second line management and from personnel with specialist involvement in child protection.
  • Voluntary agencies with a particular role in child protection in the area should be invited to put forward a nomination.

3 Structure
  • Local Child Protection Committees will meet quarterly on a planned basis though additional meetings may be arranged.
  • The Chair will be appointed from members of the group. The Chair will rotate after two years, and a new Chair be nominated by the group.
  • Local Child Protection Committee meetings will be co-ordinated to coincide as closely as possible across the city. Quarterly meetings of Chairs of Local Child Protection Committees will be arranged, to be chaired by the Senior Child Protection Co-ordinator, Social Services, who will be the link between the LCPCs and ACPC.
  • This meeting will set agendas for the LCPCs and identify key issues to be passed to ACPC and other sub-groups.
