Worried about your safety? What to do
HI!
WELCOME to the Leeds Area Child
Protection Committee (Safeguarding
Board) Website.
This page has been put together especially
for children and young people like yourselves
and may be useful to you or your friends.
It’s important that all children
feel safe whether at home, at school
or out and about in the local area and
most children do.
Sometimes children and young people
need help from Professional people like
the Police, Teachers, Social Workers,
Doctors or Nurses to help them feel safe
and happy.
At the end of this page we have listed
some telephone numbers (and on our Useful
Links page we have some website addresses)
where you can get help either by asking
questions of adults or by reading the
information written for you to read.
How Can You Keep Yourself and Your Friends
Safe
Do not talk to strangers
Do not take gifts from people you do
not know
Tell someone you trust if someone is
making you feel uncomfortable
Shout loudly if someone is asking you
to do something you are not happy about
Never leave home without telling your
parents or the people caring for you
where you are going
If you go out with your friends make
sure you stay together even if you fall
out
Share this information with your brothers
and sisters and your friends and help
them keep safe.
Sometimes strangers you meet make you
feel unhappy and you should go and tell
a trusted family member. But if you are
worried about a family member or a friend
of the family tell a trusted adult. This
might be someone like a school teacher.
They will believe you.
How Can You Get Advice That Will Help
You if You are Unhappy?
If you know an adult that you feel you
can trust, tell them that you are unhappy
and what’s worrying you. They will
know what to do and will help you.
You can ring the Local Social Services
Department and tell them what you are
worried about and they will be able to
help you and also help the person who
is making you unhappy.
You may want to ring a helpline that
is just for Children such as Childline
or the NSPCC Helpline. The NSPCC Helpline
has a textline for children with hearing
difficulties.
